X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)
ESCA Lab
X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) - a powerful tool for surface analysis in the Ultra Heigh Vacuum. One can study the composition and electronic state of the surface region of a sample. I really enjoyed to use technique to study the composition of electrochemically passive layers on Cobalt with our ESCA-LAB at university (see image).
For the ones, who are interested in the methods background I recommend to visit the website of the Johns Hopkins University.
The Seal Laboratories Website gives a basic tutorial with quite funny animated gifs as well.
