Co(OH)2(0001) Superstructure

This in situ STM image depicts a magnification of the Co(OH)2(0001) superstructure on a Co(0001) single crystal surface at E = -0.65 V, which has been published yesterday (see here). The pattern appears hexagonal with an average lattice parameter (P) of 1.25 nm. The superstructure is most probably due to a misfit in the lattice parameters of the metallic substrate and the hydroxide. One may also see the small atoms forming this pattern (a), however further magnification is coming soon…:)
